Putting It All Together

Top 7 Social Media Marketing Trends @ thebuzzasheville.com

Blog

"Blogging is a great way to show your talents and interests to prospective employers, while adding an edge to your resume. If you blog consistently it shows your dedication, passions and creativity - all of which are key attributes employers look for in job candidates." -Lauren Conrad-

This semester I learned about a lot of different aspects of promoting my company. One of the most useful tools that I found was the blog I created for my company.  Every week we were given a topic to use for our company, whether it was promoting an event or writing about a new project I was excited about. Then we wrote a couple paragraphs, added a link, a picture, and a title or heading. We posted our blog on www.blogspot.com every Wednesday by midnight. The reason the posts were done every week at the same time was because it shows consistency. Also, according Abby Porterfield from Social Media Examiner “In  2011 Social Media Marketing Industry Report, 78% of marketers saw increased traffic with just six hours a week invested in social media.” This shows that consistent blog postings are important for company promotion, and that they increase recognition.

Twitter

“Twitter lets me hear from a lot of people in a very short period of time.” - Robert Scoble-
Twitter is a whole new ballpark. Have you ever used Twitter and thought to yourself “That was a really easy way to get a thought out there”? I thought that when I was using Twitter for my business. Twitter is an awesome way to promote for your company. You can favorite a tweet from somebody you follow and make it a favorite on your page. You can customize your page to follow the theme of your business. You  can follow tons of other people, businesses and organization to stay connected. According to Mequoda Daily Blog @ http://www.mequoda.com/articles/audience-development/times-to-tweet-should-you-start-tweeting-during-the-day-on-saturdays/ “Buddy Media defines the usage of the word only by re tweets and replies, saying ”78% of user engagement with a brand’s Tweets is in the form of Re-tweets, while replies, which form the basis for ‘conversation,’ make up only 22% of engagement”. This shows the importance of taking time to engage your followers with your tweets and to inform them on what your company is developing. When I read my social media buddy report I discovered that my best times to send my tweets was: 11:00 am, 4:00 p.m., and 8 p.m. These times are the best chance for engagement with my followers. These times gave people the best chance to respond to them if they had questions for me. They also gave me the best opportunity respond back. in the future I don't think I will use twitter for my business. I prefer somewhere I can write more. Tweets are just to short for me to convey the message that I want.

Facebook

Facebook is a great way to keep people updated on your business. You can easily promote discounts for your company. You can show new products you have. You can let your followers participate in contests and give always. That is how I used my Facebook page to stay connected with other people, business, and organizations. Here is the link to Painting Wood Work & Designs Page: https://www.facebook.com/PaintingWood?ref=hl I used the social media buddy site to figure out when to post my post's on Facebook. I found that 11:30am -noon, 4:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. were the best times. I always posted tweets at similar times. I would usually send them on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday because that is when it is recommended. I also wanted people to know about my projects heading into the weekend. I would use Facebook for my business in a real life scenario because I liked that I could connect easily with others with just click. Also, I could promote fun craft ideas easily and put the steps to my projects as statuses. A lot of people use Facebook, and that makes it a very good way for your business to get their name out there. I found that Facebook could help my company become more successful.

Hootesuite

I really appreciate time management skills. Do you? This semester when I learned what Hootesuite was, it helped me manage time so much. Hootesuite allowed me to set up when my Facebook posts would post, and when my tweets where sent out. I was thankful for this web site this semester. I learned it benefited my business because it kept my tweets and posts at consistent time. On Mondays I would set up my tweets and posts. I would send 3 out a day for Twitter, and 3-5 for Facebook weekly. The times to send these out were about 11am – noon, 4:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m.. For Facebook I knew it was important not to overflow on daily posts, but for twitter it is ok to send that many out daily. Over all I saved a lot of time, and I would defiantly use Hootesuite in the future if I ever work as a social media coordinator. For a company it is very beneficial.

Pinterest

Pinterest was awesome for my company. I used Pinterest for a lot of things this semester. One of the reasons I loved Pinterest was that every artist likes to see other’s work. You can do that by searching through the pins on Pinterest. There were so many options I was able to look at for different crafting ideas, and projects. I had something new to talk about every week. I used Pinterest for highlights for my blog, Facebook, and Twitter. I think that Pinterest is a great way for companies to get inspiration. You can get ideas to work with and put your own custom twist on them. Here is a link to my Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/painting54/ I think that some day if I am ever in a company, and I am trying to come up with a new idea's for a product I would use Pinterest to inspire different ideas. I think a lot of companies would benefit a ton if they used this site. I pinned about 7 pins a week to Painting Wood Work & Design’s business Pinterest. I used a lot of pins on my Facebook wall too, I think people responded in a very positive way to both my tweets and posts.

Niche

What niche web site interests you? I enjoyed exploring niche wine sites like: http://mustlovewine.com/ I thought niche web sites was a good way to tell your viewers what your company is interested in. my company likes wine crafts. Some of the most interesting things about these sites is that they have so much information about one specific thing (their niche) The business(s) they have pictures, videos, events, and polls. You can even become a member on niche sites.

Podcast

A podcast is a great way to get vocal about your company. This semester I created a podcast introducing my company. I explained what my company was about. My podcast was 1:52 minutes long. Here is the link to the podcast: https://soundcloud.com/user611457724/bennis-podcast I used a recording program called Audacity to record my script vocally and to post my podcast. I thought it was beneficial for my business because it was kind of like creating radio commercial. Getting across a message with just my voice was a learning experience. I think it would be more fun to do a podcast with more action. It would be fun to include sound effects and make it more interesting and exciting. It was difficult to make my podcast topic sound interesting when I was talking about Painting Wood Work & Design. I think arts and crafts projects are something that you want to see. I think podcast was beneficial for me to learn this semester. I learned about rate and tone of voice, editing, and trying to make my business sound interesting. I think that I depend on writing a lot, so this was a different approach. It took me out of my comfort zone.

Vines and Videos

Using a video is a great way to get the word out about company. You can use video for promotions or to show clips from events or whatever you do. This semester I created 2 vines. Vines are short clips of a video that only last about 30 seconds. Here is a link to the vines I created: https://t.co/mwyrOhswaT https://t.co/0IpeAbmT6i  I thought it was a good way for me to promote my logo. I think any promotion of your business logo is good promotion. You want people to recognize who you are. I also made a YouTube video commercial on my phone. I recorded all 3 of the videos on my phone. It was pretty easy once I wrote down what I wanted to say and practiced a couple times. Here is a link to my YouTube video. long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TFp72fYT-s&feature=youtu.be My commercial was 53 seconds. I think it was a benefit to learn how to make these videos. I think they have a prominent future in today's social media for businesses. To me, videos have a huge reflection on who you are as a company. Promote with creativity and you can’t go wrong.

Summary

When I look back on all the different material and sites, I realize I have learned so much this semester. I learned what ones were my favorite and what ones were not. The ones I feel helped me to be the most successful with my company were: Facebook, Blog, and Hootesuite. These sites were the best for my company. I would pair Facebook with Hootesuite. I loved that I could write all my posts on Monday and  not worry about not missing the day and time they should post. I didn’t miss the best opportunities for promotion because I could rely on Hootesuite with my posts being out at the right times even if I was having a really busy week. The most beneficial aspects of my blog was that it was the most like having a real web site without actually having to buy and design a real web site. Also, every week my topics were challenging but fun for me to come up with new projects to promote. I could write as much as I wanted. I could use pictures and steps so my followers could easily create the projects I was promoting.

Thanks.

Measuring Social Media

“All one needs is a computer, a network connection, and a bright spark of initiative and creativity to join the economy.” - Don Tapscott -

Want to know who was looking your social media site? Want to know how many likes your page has? Want to know who finds your business interesting and favorites you? Social Media Measurement does just that. Social Media Measurement is a tool used to deliver the information you need to measure and evaluate the impact of your media strategies. This is important for your company to have. Believe it or not, the time of day you Tweet, post on Facebook, or Blog post influences how big of an impact it will have.

On my Facebook page for Painting Wood Work and Design I have reached 90 people. I have had 5 engaged, 5 clicks, and 10 people follow me. I noticed in March, when I made my account, the numbers were a little bigger. I gathered this information using www.Cyfe.com.

Twitter is faster and more to the point when using www.Cyfe.com to track your business. On Twitter I have tweeted 150 times. On Twitter I am following 16 people, and 10 people are following me. My most popular Tweet was:  Interior Design Ideas | @scoopit via @lidpid123 http://sco.lt/6Ej1vN.

Cyfe is an all-in-one business dashboard app that helps you easily monitor and analyze all of your vital business data from one place. Check it out: http://www.cyfe.com/

One of the best sites I found to improve social media analysis was www.Cyfe.com. They have developed a cloud based service that helps with media issues you might have.  They help with out-reach and inform you how to improve your numbers. They allow you to easily monitor and share your vital business data from one single location in real-time. I liked this site because it was easy to follow when I visited it. You will see what I mean when you sign up, add a widget, and add your social media sites that you want include in the analysis. It quickly analyzes your site. It pulls up all followers, likes, site out-reach, and favorites.

Thanks. Have fun.

A Whole New World

“We all live every day in virtual environments, defined by our ideas”
- Michael Crichton-

This week I researched a virtual world website that I have never seen before. I am very excited to share about it!

Second Life is online game you can play where “Your world your imagination.” In Second Life you can be anything or anyone you want. You can even create yourself as an animal or object. Then you live the life you want, whether you are an animal in the ocean or an ordinary everyday person. Second Life is a 3D world where everyone you see is controlled by a real person (user), and every place you visit is built by user too.

I think that a second life would be beneficial for my business. It brings awesome new ideas to the table that can be used to market and promote my company. I could create a fun and artsy woman with a shop offering the same type of stuff my company has in real life in Second Life. Then I could use her to promote my company in the virtual world.

Choose your Avatar @ https://join.secondlife.com/?lang=en-US#0

Take a look at their website and I don’t think you will be disappointed. Please take the time to think how you could use this virtual game. I know there are advantages it can provide for your company. Even if you don’t use it for your company it is still just good old everyday fun!

YELP!

Have you ever wondered how to get a quick and easy review or second opinion for something, but you didn’t have time to ask anyone face to face?

No problem!

There is a site made just for that, and it is only a click away. www.yelp.com Yelp is a web site designed for people to visit and post their opinions and/or reviews on just about any retailer. Their posts are anything like doctors and dentists to restaurants and bars, plus anything in between.

Yelp was founded in 2004. Since then it has about 53 million reviews posted. Yelp is easy to join. Simply visit www.yelp.com and sign up to be a member. The membership is free.

I chose to join Yelp because I like to read the opinions that are posted. I like to try new restaurants.  I like that the site has restaurant reviews right at the very top of the page. There are thousands of reviews to choose from. Yelp is clear and to the point, and that is something I like in a review. I feel like I am getting honest feedback from the reviews on Yelp.

What I look for in a review is honest information, graphs, and statistics. This is what I think qualifies as a good review. It is what people want out of a properly done one. So I advise you to check out www.yelp.com Take a little bit of time to research something before you try it out for yourself.

Have Fun & Enjoy!

Business Commercial on YouTube

The emotions you can feel from watching a commercial or video can be amazing. In a video you can get a message across in so many creative ways. A video can be motivational. It can change your perception on life. It can guide you through a learning process.

This week I made a video commercial for my company.

Check it out! http://youtu.be/2TFp72fYT-s

Here are the steps I took:

  1. I picked a topic that corresponded with my company. In this case, the topic was my rhubarb leaves.
  2. I wrote a script of what I was going to talk about and the message I wanted to convey.
  3. I set up my workstation, making sure that I had all the props and supplies to covey a strong message.
  4. I then filmed my video to the appropriate time length.
I hope that you are enlightened. Keep in mind that videos can be fun, and you can be creative as you like!

Have fun and enjoy!

Spring is Here. Let’s Party!

Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!” -Robin Williams

How do you like to spend your spring and summer nights? Is your answer crafting? Then I have the project for you! This project is designed for creative use of paint, cement, and digging in your garden. This week I am going to show you the process of making decretive cement rhubarb leaves.

These are the easy steps for this project:
  1. Pick a rhubarb leaf from your garden. The size of this leaf is up to you. It just depends how big you want your cement leaf to be.
  2. Take a large bin or a kiddie pool and fill it with sand. If you already have a sandbox that works too. Make sure not to leave any leftover concrete in it for the kids to hurt themselves with.
  3. Make a mound in the sand about the same size as the leaf. The height of the mound is up to you. It can be tall so you end up with more of a bowl shaped leaf. It can be fairly flat if you want a flat leaf.
  4. Place the leaf on top of the mound.
  5. Mix the cement from the bag with fine sand. The quality of the cement and sand is important. You don’t want to end up with little holes or lumpy rocks in your leaf when it dries.
  6. After mixing the cement use latex or plastic gloves to scoop the cement. Pack it lightly and evenly over the leaves. Try not to let the cement run off the leaves and into the sand.
  7. Let leaves dry for a few days. They dry faster in the sun. Check their progress to see if they are drying properly. Cover them with a tarp if it rains.
  8.  After the leaf is completely dry carefully take it out the sand. Gently scrape the leaf off the cement. It will leave an imprint of the leaf on the cement
  9. Next you need to decide how you are going to finish your leaf. You can paint, gloss, or leave them natural.
Check out my Facebook https://www.facebook.com/PaintingWood to view more pictures of leaves.

Easy Pallet Chair

Check out this week’s DIY pallet project courtesy of
http://www.diy-craft.com/2013/06/diy-make-chair-by-pallet.html

These chairs are great for lounging around the fire, on the porch, by the pool, in the yard, or even in front of the TV.

This is a very easy lounge chair that can be made from 1 pallet. This will not work with all types of pallet. Notice the bottom boards are doubled up. This is good because the top piece will fit nice and snug when you assemble them. You will need to cut them apart from the inside. Make sure you only cut the inner boards. You will also cut the leg pieces from the inner section. Cut the legs about 12 inches. Determine the appropriate angle to cut the bottoms so they sit flush with the ground. When you attach the pieces, first attach the joints with only 1 nail each . That will allow you to adjust the angles of the chair. Once you decide the angles you need to secure each joint with 2 more nails.

Your next step is to decide if you want to stain, paint or just leave it natural. You could even add cushions.

 Thank you. Enjoy!

Wood Pallet Wine Rack

This weeks project will be for the wine lovers out there. I am going to show you how to make a wine bottle and wine glass holder.
This week I want to tell you about one the fun projects you can do with old wooden pallets. If you can find an old wooden pallet at a local business that they are throwing out they work great for a worn-out rustic look. You will want to find a pallet that has the right amount of wear but none of the tear. You want old looking boards, but no split or broken boards.
Then you need to decide how big your shelf is going to be. This depends on how much room you have and how much wine you will have. Give yourself about 3 ½ inches per bottle for the length of the shelf. Each glass will be spaced 3 ½ inches apart as well. You can choose to leave it raw wood, painted or stained.

Have fun and enjoy!

Facebook Privacy Settings

This week I want to tell you what the awesome world of Facebook is all about and how you can use privacy settings.
Privacy settings protect your personal information or anything you don't want people to see.

When you log into your Facebook home page there is a “Lock” icon in the top right corner of the screen. Click that icon and select "See More Settings".  This allows you to control who can see your activity and what activity they can see. You can control tags you are in (posts and pictures). You can control what comes up in your feed or on your timeline. You can also, choose who can search you, who can contact you and you can block people.

Now I would like to tell you how I personally have my privacy set. I normally keep my page as an open to view my profile. I don’t post very personal information and I keep things professional. One of the privacy settings I use is the one that allows me to review tags of me in pictures or posts. I just feel more comfortable reviewing them before they show up my page. This way I can accept or decline the tag. On my Facebook I don’t show my address, and I don’t include my phone number. Part of this is for safety reasons. If I want you to know these things I will tell you. This information is for my real friends not “Facebook Friends”

I have Tweeted my permalink from Twitter to this site. I hope you're enjoying the different ways you can use Facebook, Twitter, and Blogspot.com for a business.

Have fun and enjoy!

Twitter, and what it is all about!

This week I want to tell you what the awesome world of Twitter.

Twitter is a social networking account that allows people to share pieces of their lives. A Twitter post is called a Tweet. Twitter users can send and read Tweets. Tweets are limited to 140 characters, so they are kept short. They are written shorthand. They use abbreviation, acronyms, slang, and almost their own language. Full sentences and proper grammar are rarely used. Tweets use Hashtags # and the @ symbol to link Tweets and users.
What I find impressive about twitter is the business aspects of it. It is wonderful for promoting your company. On twitter you can Tweet about your company’s promotions, deals, discounts, or just about anything. It is a fast and easy approach in the big marketing scheme. It is crucial that your company has a Twitter account (and uses it).
Although there are a lot of pros about twitter there are some cons. Some of the cons are that twitter tends to have a lot of overused information. People can post false information. The positives are how fast and easy good information can spread. You can improve your customer service by reading what people are tweeting about you or about the latest trends.

There are different kinds of Tweets a business can do:
   Entertain tweet: Have a #smallbizday
   Inform tweet: New leaves #checkthemout #colors #newdealstoday
EEI tweet: Fall is coming. Lets use painting to make it beautiful.
EEI tweet 2: Art is life #painting #colors.

Now that I have told you what twitter is all about, I hope you consider using Twitter for your own business. It is a fast, fun, and easy way to promote your company!

Have fun and enjoy!
